Health clubs and gyms are a current growth industry, with the number of gyms increasing year-on-year. These come with their own unique challenges; gyms often host classes with loud music, structure-borne impact noise from heavy weights being dropped, and the need for very high levels of ventilation and air conditioning.
To compound these challenges, many fitness gyms are developed in shopping centres, basement or ground floor levels below apartments or hotels, or in town centre locations with many other buildings surrounding them.
Through our work with several national gym and fitness chains, ACA Acoustics have developed extensive experience of ensuring noise and vibration from a fitness gym does not disturb nearby or adjoining noise-sensitive occupants, even in the most challenging of scenarios.
We undertake airborne sound insulation tests and simulated weight-drop impact tests. Results of these are complemented by acoustic modelling to develop a design for suitable noise control schemes. We will also assess noise from proposed mechanical services equipment.
Results of our assessments are included in a report to support an initial planning application, to assist the design team as the development progresses, and to demonstrate compliance with landlord criteria. We can then carry out commissioning tests on completion if required. We are also able to help if you have ongoing noise complaints from your existing gym.
We’d love to discuss how we can help with your next project. Please call or fill in the contact form and we will get back to you.
